Yum Cimil - God of Death

We have been learning about some of the most important deities in the ancient Mayan culture, such as Hun Hunahpuh and Chac. We have learned that Mayans were polytheists, which means that they believed in more than one god. One of the most feared gods was Yum Cimil - the Mayan Death God. We learned a little about him and then tried to draw our own version. He was:
God of the Underworld and ruled over the land of death;
often shown as being made up of bones like a skeleton, with torn flesh;
and associated with owls, and sometimes had an owl's head!

We really enjoyed trying to illustrate this fearsome deity!
