Dear Parents

Many thanks to those of you who emailed us with your preferred address and well done to all of you for making it through the first week (hopefully unscathed!).  Attached to this email you will find the learning resources for next week in Year 6.  We have tried to maintain the same format as the previous learning packs so that there is as little confusion as possible.

The first thing we want to absolutely stress is that there is no expectation that your child engages with every single learning opportunity provided.  We know that some families have limited time to supervise their child’s remote learning due to work commitments or having multiple school age children, or even both!  Equally, we know that some families will want lots of resources to use with their child.  As their parent, you are the only one in a position to judge how much work your child should be achieving for their individual circumstances.  Please do not feel pressured in any way by the amount of work sent out.  We are aiming to provide enough work to keep your child busy for most of the school day, and have highlighted in yellow some of the activities that might be a particular focus for our discussions during phone contact.

Next week, you will find that there are more online video resources than in previous packs, although where possible we have tried to ensure that there are still tasks and activities that can be completed without access to an internet ready device.  I’m sure you can appreciate that preparing a week’s worth of learning for children with different levels of understanding and varying resources and parent support is quite a challenge.  As the weeks go on, we hope to keep improving our learning resources for your child.

Where live sessions are scheduled, these will take place on Microsoft Teams.  The IT in school is very close to being ready so you should soon receive all of the information you need in order to get your child involved with the live sessions.  Please note that if they are unable to attend the live sessions, they won’t be able to watch them at a later point in time.  For this reason, we are ensuring that these will be sharing sessions whilst we gauge attendance as we move forward.

This week, there is one possible activity that involves your child recording themselves talking about a lockdown goal that they are setting.  If you would like your child to take part in this, then these videos must be sent to yearsix@catherinewayte.swindon.sch.uk from a parent’s email address.  We will take this as a permission from the adult that we can include the video in our montage to be shared on the website.

Many thanks for your continued support, and we hope you can enjoy a restful weekend.  Take care and stay safe.

Mr Shammas and Mrs Tomlins
