Rainforests

Throughout Term 1, we have been looking at the incredible diversity of the world's rainforests!

In Geography, we have learned all about the different layers of the rainforest, where they can be located (such as South America) and how they are under threat from human actions.

What Is Deforestation?

First we learned about the causes and the dangers of deforestation.  Then we wrote imagined diaries of rainforest creatures (such as ocelots or tamarins) who had been affected by the destruction of their habitat.  We tried to make our writing emotive so that our reader would feel sympathy for the creatures.

The Animal Kingdom

In Science, we have studied the different classifications of the animal kingdom, and explored branching keys, including with various invertebrates such as arachnids, molluscs and crustaceans.
In Art, we used recycled cardboard (after all, we wouldn't want to encourage even more deforestation...) and paint to create these vibrant and bold animal masks!

Jonathan's Jungle Roadshow

At the end of term, we had a fascinating visit from a variety of fascinating invertebrates that we were able to meet (and even hold!).  It was a very interesting session which the children thoroughly enjoyed.  Many thanks to the PTA for their generosity in enabling this to go ahead.
