Languages

"Learning a new language offers children the opportunity to better understand and explore the world we live in.  At Catherine Wayte, language learning focuses on ‘practical communication’ through teaching which provides ‘a balance of spoken and written language’ and aims to enable the pupils to make ‘substantial progress in one language’.  French is taught to children from Foundation Stage to Year 6.  For children in KS1 this is done through simple French songs and rhymes where children become familiar with the ‘sound’ of the French language, become confident joining in with these songs and begin to pick up basic vocabulary.   Children in Key Stage 2 follow the National Curriculum for Languages."
