Ancient Greek - history and art

As part of our history work on the Ancient Greeks, Year 5 looked at artefacts from that time in history and generated questions about what the artefacts could tell us about the Ancient Greeks.  After that, we focused on Ancient Greek pottery and looked at the patterns and images, which decorated them.  In art lessons, we then developed our own repeating patterns in the Ancient Greek style and sketched images of warriors, scholars, Gods and mythical scenes.  We then used these designs to design our own drawing of a pot in that style.  In our final designs, we used a range of media including pens, pencils and crayons and we used jelly to print repeating patterns - the jelly part was harder than it looked and a bit sticky!  Year 5 produced some impressive and detailed final designs.
