What is SEND?

What is SEND?

SEND is an abbreviation of Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities. Where a child has a learning difficulty or a disability that requires higher levels of support, and different teaching strategies and extra resources are needed to help access the curriculum or to take part in the school day, the child is referred to as having SEND.

There are four categories of SEND: cognition and learning, social emotional and mental health (this includes ADHD), communication and interaction (this includes autism) and physical and sensory (this includes deaf, partially hearing and visually impaired).

Who do I contact if I have a concern?

The class teacher is the first person to contact if there is a concern about a child’s progress. Mrs Hawkins is also available for advice and can be contacted via email lhawkins@catherinewayte.bluekitetrust.org
