British Science Week 2023
The theme for British Science Week 2023 was ‘Connections’.
The children had an assembly all about this theme and shared and discussed examples of connections everywhere, whether that be in our bodies, in our gadgets or in the world around us. We made great links to different subjects and themes including computing as we discussed how technology has advanced significantly, allowing us to stay connected in real life and connecting online.
In Key Stage 1 and Lower Key Stage 2, the children explored a variety of connections made in relation to food chains and how the cycle of energy is connected and how we make the connection between growing and obtaining, then eating food.
In Years 4 and 6, the children looked at ‘Fantastic Fingerprints’ and compared different fingerprints (including their own) to others and looked for and identified patterns. They looked at different ways fingerprints can be different and how they can be collected.
In Year 5, the children linked their science activity to their Victorian topic and looked at creating and designing bridges that would be strong and supportive. They then tested this using different weights, and evaluated their bridges discussing the shapes and construction of their designs. Year 6 also designed and created their own bridges.
Overall, there were lots of fun and exciting science activities completed by all the school and they also learnt something new about science too!
