Author Trip to Abbey Park
On Tuesday 9th November 2017, Year 5 were lucky enough to visit Abbey Park secondary school to see a presentation by the talented author Andy Briggs.
Andy explained the role of a writer and helped the children to consider a world where there were no writers. He enabled the children to realise that writing spans all sorts
of creative platforms such as; Television/Film scripts, Computer games, songs and often involves a team of writers brainstorming ideas. During the presentation, Andy also
talked about the writing of his own books such as Tarzan and how he researched characters. For example, he has travelled to Africa to get a first hand experience of the elephants and gorillas in his books. He could even describe the feel and smell of them!
Andy demonstrated a passion for reading - especially graphic novels - and writing; emphasising the importance of both. His enthusiasm was infectious and the children were
inspired by his talk.
