Sutton Courtenay Trip

Wednesday 20th May - What a day!

Year 5 travelled to the Sutton Courtenay Nature Reserve. Both classes enjoyed the day. During our time there, the pupils measured the flow of the river, the depth (edges and middle), the speed and the ph levels. This would help us work out if the river is safe enough for all the animals which use it. Year 5 also dipped nets into the river in order to see what was living in there - you can see from the photos below what they discovered.

For the other activity of the day, pupils also collected specimen (animals) from the nature reserve meadow. Here they found crickets, grasshoppers, spiders, butterflies and many more.

On the walk to the river, the classes also came across bushes and trees which had webs all over them. They were not spiders' webs, they were caterpillars. Some photos were more successful than others.
