STEM Update 2025/26
STEM Update
We are delighted to share some recent highlights from our STEM Team and to celebrate the fantastic enthusiasm for science, technology, engineering and maths across our school.
British Science Week
During British Science Week, the whole school took part in a fantastic BBC Live Lesson – The Making of the Moon Movie. This engaging session explored themes such as light, space and our moon and was accessible and enjoyable for children across all year groups.
Following the live lesson, pupils explored this year’s British Science Week theme of “Curiosity – What is your question?”. Each class generated scientific questions to ignite curiosity and discussion, before choosing one to share in a whole‑school assembly. The assembly was confidently led by pupils in Years 5 and 6 – thank you to the following pupils for leading it so brilliantly: Shanaya, Mahbeer, Alessia, Thea, Parker, Nathan, Estelle, George, Harry, Manasseh, Romy and Daisy W.
The school also took part in the British Science Week Poster Competition. All classes participated, apart from D1, who worked collaboratively to create a whole‑class poster; this was based on the theme of ‘What makes children’s lives positive? What will a positive childhood look like in the future for children your age?’. From across the school, only a limited number of posters could be selected for entry into the official competition. So, well done to the following children who won their class poster competition: Violet (A2), Jayden (A4), Rev (C1), John (V1) and Mahbeer (V4) and a special well done to the following pupils whose posters were also chosen to be submitted to the official competition: Aryan (A1), Rev (C1), Phoebe (V2), Shanaya (V3), Olivia (V5) and Akul (V6). Well done to all children for their creativity and scientific thinking.
Maths Update and Assembly
We recently held a Maths Assembly to further our maths vision of “Every Child is a Mathematician.” During the assembly, Mrs Minter and Miss Acres highlighted the importance of using maths in the real world and introduced the final three maths certificates.
Children can now achieve up to six maths certificates, each linked to one of our maths values characters:
- Marvellous Mistake Maker
- Concept Checker
- Confident Coach
- Enthusiastic Explorer
- Pattern Detective
- Resilient Reasoner
Your child may come home proudly holding one of these certificates as we continue to celebrate effort, resilience and mathematical thinking.
STEM Event – Date for Your Diary
Following the success of last year’s STEM event, we are excited to confirm that Year 4 and Year 6 will be showcasing their STEM projects on Thursday 25th June. All pupils will have the opportunity to view the projects during the school day. Parents and carers are warmly invited to view the projects created by Year 4 and Year 6 between 3:00pm and 3:30pm. We look forward to sharing the children’s fantastic STEM learning with you.
