Exploring Ancient Egypt: Making Our Own Canopic Jars

As part of our exciting Ancient Egypt topic, the children have been learning about canopic jars — special containers the Ancient Egyptians used thousands of years ago to hold and protect important organs during the mummification process. Each jar had a lid shaped like one of the four sons of Horus, who were believed to guard the organs and help the person reach the afterlife.

Today, the children had a fantastic, hands-on morning creating their very own canopic jars out of clay. Using the pinching method, they carefully shaped and moulded their designs, showing great creativity and focus. It was wonderful to see their imagination come to life as they added details inspired by what they’ve learned about Ancient Egypt.

Once the jars have fully dried, we’ll be painting them to complete the project. The children did an amazing job — well done to everyone for their enthusiasm and effort!
