A Fantastic Few Days of Bread Making!
The children have had a wonderful couple of days as part of our Design and Technology (DT) topic, learning all about bread and how it is made.
To begin, the children tasted a variety of different breads and shared their opinions, discussing which ones they enjoyed the most and why. It was great to see them trying new flavours and textures!
Today, the children became bakers themselves and made their very own bread. They carefully weighed out 500g of flour, sieved it into a bowl, and added 2 teaspoons of salt, half a teaspoon of yeast, and 2 tablespoons of oil. They then measured and added 300ml of water before mixing everything together.
One of the highlights of the day was kneading the dough. Every child had the opportunity to take part, and they thoroughly enjoyed getting hands-on with the process. Once the dough was ready, it was baked in the oven, filling the entire school with a delicious smell.
In the afternoon, the children responsibly used bread knives to slice their freshly baked bread before adding their chosen fillings. They were incredibly proud of what they had created and were excited to enjoy their finished products.
The children loved every stage of the experience, from tasting and making to baking and eating.
