Intrepid Explorer Visit
What an amazing adventure!
Y5 sat and listened for over one hourto Al Sylvester on Wednesday 10th September. Al is a very good speaker and Y5 listened intently to his journey to Antarctica. He linked all the stages of planning, preparing and achieving his dream to walk to the South Pole to the events which chidlren/adults might meet during their lives.
Al has 3 words which he says can apply to all of us NEVER GIVE UP.
Al showed us pictures of his expedition to Antarctica as well as what happened when he had to stop the expedition. Some photos were rather gruesome but all of us were warned well in advance so we didn't have to look at them if we didn't want to.
One pupil dressed up in some of the layers that the expedition had to wear. Al told Y5 that the explorers should have worn 3-4 layers on their legs and 5-8 on thier torso.
