Fire Safety talk

On Friday 23rd February, Year 5 had a visit from Mrs Davinia Sparks. She is an Education Officer from Wiltshire & Dorset Frire Brigade. She visited Year 1 and 2 as well as Year 3 and 4.

Year 5 had a talk about fire safety in the home and how we can ensure our homes are as safe as possible. Both classes became Fire Investigators, checking to see if they could work out the start to a number of fires in homes (These were real fires that have occured by names and places had been changed). Both classes rose to the challenge and worked through the information in order to discover how and where the fires started.

The children worked well in groups and were fascinated by the items from actual fires.

We all learnt how we could prevent a fire in our homes.

  • We need to remember to check our smoke alarms weekly.
  • We must not leave cooking unattended - turn off everything if we need to leave the kitchen.
  • Never play with matches.
  • Do not have an extension cords plugged into another extension lead.
  • Check the voltage (information was sent to parents) of plugs in the extension leads.
