The Stay Safe Initiative - November 2023
At our school we take online safety very seriously and as such we have been working with Richard from The Stay Safe Initiative over the past few months. Richard has run parent workshops for us: one in July and one in November. We have really tried to encourage parental attendance by running a raffle for attending (with the prize of Costa vouchers), having them at different times and even running a creche for younger siblings. We have had many positive comments from parents following these sessions.
On Tuesday 7th November Richard spent the morning with Year 5 and 6 pupils discussing their digital lives and keeping them safe. It was an interactive morning with lots of children getting involved. Richard covered the three main themes of: interacting, connecting and sharing with the aim of empowering our pupils to be positive, safe and good digital citizens. He introduced many useful hints and tips to help children to remember how we should act in our digital lives with the Golden Rule of: Speak Out and Tell Someone. He finished the session with the Toothpaste Challenge, which was not only great fun to watch but also had a very important message! If you're not sure what this message is, ask your child to explain!
