Dear Year 6 children and parents

We hope you and your families continue to keep safe and well. Thanks so much again to all of those of you who have been in touch either just to say hello or to tell us about the fantastic things you have been doing at home. We always love hearing from you on the Year 6 email address:

Following a request from a few parents, we are sending next week’s learning ideas out today in order to help people plan what they are going to do next week if they wish to. Thank you parents for all you are doing to support your children’s learning.

The home learning activities we are suggesting for this week include some English and Maths tasks and also some Geography and Art activities.

Please see the attached document about persuasive language for this week’s writing activity where you have a chance to look at the language of adverts.

For activities linked with reading please follow the link below which takes you to the ‘Home Time’ section of The Book Trust website and then to a section on quizzes. Here you will find a wide range of different quizzes to do with books, reading and even things like climate change and the human body which are really fun.

If you haven’t done so already, do have a look at some of Mr Shammas’ YouTube lessons (MrShammasTeaches) where you’ll find everything from werewolves and adventure stories to poetry.

For Maths, there are a few different activities attached for you to try. There are some quick ‘Fab Fours’ which are sets of 4 quick questions, some work on fractions and decimals and even maths hangman for some fun!

For Geography, look at the attached lesson about using a compass and have a go at some of the activities. We had great fun learning how to use a compass in our metacognition sessions earlier this year, but there is a quick video reminder if you have forgotten anything.

For those of you who like a drawing challenge we have attached some fantastic step by step guides for how to draw some fabulous dragons. We would love to see any you would like to send us via email.

Finally, please keep emailing Mrs Brown with your child’s memory of primary school and their hopes and dreams for the future along with a photo of them. Also, just a reminder that if you would like to purchase a leavers’ hoodie for your child, the deadline for the online shop is Tuesday 26th May.

Until next time, take care and stay safe.

Mrs Tomlins and Mr Shammas
